Is that Your Wife or your Mother?

#1 Unread post by MotoF150 »

Was out riding today, ran into a guy that owned a nice Honda Shadow 1100, shooting the bull, talking about bikes, he had tons of accessories on it, he had these chrome eagle mirrors that caught my eye, then this old lady she must have been in her 70's walked up and said to me " I bought him those mirrors, guess how much I paid for them"? Being a nice guy that I am I told her I love those mirrors they must have been at least $100, she said she paid $200 for them, I told the guy that was nice his mother bought him those mirrors, then he said " Thats My Wife" I said excuse me, im sorry I didn't know, I walked away, I couldn't believe it?? This guy had to be no more than 32 , 35 years old and his wife looks like shes in her 70's, I should have thought about that before I said that cause she was there with him at that time and she had to of come with him riding on the back of the bike. I have to think before I open my mouth the next time. I should have thought why would any guy be riding his mother around on the back of his bike? I feel bad about what I said.

Problem with taking my mom for a ride on the bike is that shes hardheaded and doesnt think those pre-ride "rules" mean anything to her.

look over the inside shoulder.....
keep your feet on the pegs.
dont take your frackin helment off at a stoplight.

no no no dont slap the back of my helment everytime you see a car.....grrrrrrrr.

Oh, don't feel too bad. It happens. Lately I don't assume anything about anyone. I've known lots of women who are married to men 10, 15 years younger. Folks who look like grandparents to a child, but it's really their own child. Androgynous folks where you can't fully tell if they're a man or a woman. It's a big world. Next time just say, "that's a nice gift to give someone" or whatever. But I'm sure those folks get the confused comments all the time.

And people do take their parents for a ride on their bikes. My husband took his Dad for a ride. We've both had my Mom on the back of our bikes.

Cheers,
Loonette
