removing rear rim?

#1 Unread post by Cjanik84 »

i tried to do a search but the search system here seems to be too vague. it searches many things that are not related.

my rear tire is flat, i guess the previous owner tried to patch it up

i filled it back up w/ air hoping it would hold it for ~10 minutes which is the distance from my house to the shop but no avail, it went flat asap.

so now i need to remove the rear tire and take it to teh shop, i want to do this wed. mornign (may 31st, 2006) but i need to get the rear tire off first.

only question is...how do i go about doing that?? :? my bike is driven by a chain, its a 84 ninja 900r

thanks to everyone who responds, much appriciated!!!

Is the bike fitted with a centre stand? If not you will need a http://www.fastbikebits.com/acatalog/pa ... tands.html or something similar to support the bike and get the back wheel off the ground.
Once it is up remove the rear brake caliper from the disc and tie it off out of the way. Remove chain guard and then remove pin from axle nut (if fitted) and undo the nut. Put a chock or your foot underneath the wheel to support the weight and slide the axle out of the wheel ensuring that it stays clean, so put it up out of the way. Then push the wheel forward enough so that you can take the chain off the rear sprocket making sure it too stays off the ground and doesn't get any crud in it. Once the wheel is down roll it out clear of the swingarm and remove the rear sprocket which should just be sitting there up against its cushions so it pulls straight off.

Done.
