250 sport bike opinions

i ride a 06 ninja 250 i ride mine on the interstate (and even pass people) on a daily basis. the 250 is going to ride different than a 600cc bike but is great for a beginner because it is much more forgiving if you accidentally twist the throttle too hard. VERY capable in the twisties, and better than 90% of cars in flat-line acceleration. also works well as a panty remover too because most girls arent going to know a ninja 250 from a haybusa. full fairings are full fairings.

Here's what I found in the 250cc Sportbike range. I didn't find the Hyosung Motors homepage very useful so, I linked to AlphaSports Motors as well. AlphaSports is the North American importer of Hyosung motorcycles.

You may be able to find older bikes in the 250cc range that would suit your sportbike desires. For the most part, the major manufacturer's quit selling 250's to North America in the 90's I believe.

Ditto on what everyone said about the acceleration on the 250. There is no issue there. I have the 06 250 (from Canada so its the ZZR not the EX) and I love it! Handling is great and the bike does what I ask of it. No doubt there are riders that can and will ask more of it and I'm sure they'd get a great response.

I'm beig told that I'll outgrow the 250 Ninja pretty fast, although i'm not convinced. Insurace cost is a big issue too, so I need to research the advantages there.

Anyone have relative numbers for their 250s vs. 500s?

The question stands, he said he heard they do not have good accel, but they leave can leave a car in the dust without trying. Most any bike can. So the question is, how much acceleration do you really need?

The 250 Aesthetics are not right for me. I dislike low slung mufflers, and I find a full fairing to be disorienting when riding. And like so many people say, "just because you have the power doesn't mean you need to use it." But yes, I like the acceleration on my bike, that doesn't make the 250's acceleration slow by any means.

That being said the 250 seems like a reasonably comfortable bike, and the seat is definately better then mine is.

that works going both directions too. if you snap the throttle off hard, the engine braking isn't going to be nearly as radical as it would on a RR
