If you know how to ride a bicycle, you're on a good start. As an added bonus, if you've driven a stick shift car before it'll come in handy, but is certainly not a requirement.

I passed mine the other day and it was not a big deal, all my classmates passed. Take to heart everything your instructors tell you, soak it up and apply it on the range.

Hey group,

Proud to tell you all I successfully completed and passed the MSF course this afternoon. We started the range training Saturday morning and by Saturday afternoon, I was feeling pretty comfortable riding the motorcycle (Honda Nighthawk 250). The things I was concerned about throughout the course were dropping the bike and being able to shift. Well it turns out, I didn't have any problems with dropping the bike and shifting and finding neutral was a little tough on the first day but by the second day, I wasn't having too much trouble. The U-turns were a little tricky - some of the practice rounds I was able to stay in the lines and not tap the ground and others not so good.

Even if I had not passed, I still accomplished what I set out to do and that was learn to ride a motorcycle and had a blast doing it. After taking the course, its obvious that whether you pass or fail, you still require lots of practice in order to become a good motorcyclist and that's what I plan to do....as soon as I go out and buy a bike...

On to the next phase...

Congrats on passing the course, Carl. It's a great feeling, isn't it? Keep us posted on getting a bike.

Hey all,

Just got back from a trip out of town - which I had a chance to ride around on a Honda XR200(?) dirt bike that my cousin had - and stopped by the DMV with the MSF completion certificate. After waiting for a short while (for a DMV office in the middle of the afternoon), I now have a new license with the Class "M" endorsement.

I think this weekend I'll be going to some dealers to see what I can find in the way of a used bike. Hopefully I'll find something not too old but not too new either.
