You might want to check to see if the construction company will pay for it. If they were negligent in any way in that they should have covered it but didn't or if they should have had a warning sign but didn't. It wouldn't hurt to ask.
Check with the city.

One of my neighbors told me the same thing. I passed by the construction site and they refered me to FPL (electric company) which was doing the digging. So I rode over there, luckily it was only a few blocks away and I opened a claim with the claims rep. They asked me to take pictures of the bike and get back to them with 2 quotes to fix it. They ackowledged that the trenches should have been covered by the metal grating.
I'm headed over there today with the info. I got two quotes for fixing the fender and painting the bike, one was $800 and the other $1200. They both told me I had to paint the entire bike because red is a hard color to match. I really could care less as long as FPL pays for it.

I lucked out! I contacted a guy that we've bought parts from before and he has a front fender for my bike, same color, mint condition for $150.00 YAHOO! I'm still pursuing the claim, at least they can pay for the friggen fender.

Good reading so far S-T! Hope all goes well with the fix-it issue. Did you mention what year your bike is - did you get it new or used?

Update on the fender... ofcourse they didn't want to pay for it. I didn't want to pursue it and further, I would have spent more time fighting it than it's worth. So my fender is still cracked and the deal with the guy on ebay fell through. Luckily it's not that visible. I already have someone that's going to fix it for me and repaint it, since the bike needed it anyways.
On a happier note...
Took the bikes out early this morning and my husband and I went for a ride. We both gased up and took off. We were planning to head out to Everglades National Park for a nice long ride out there but it looked like it might rain later in the day so we just cruised around some of the nice back roads and had a great time. Had some nice curvy roads where I could really open up the bike and get some good practice on turns. It was awesome... We hit some traffic on the way back, but it was pretty uneventful, no big deal. We're planning on going out again tomorrow morning with some other riders.
I'm really happy with the progress that I've made on the bike. My husbands only crtisisim today was that I was going too slow at one point in time. Hello! I was just cruising and enjoying the sceenery, mind you he was a good two blocks behind me... too slow my butt!...lol Anyways...I felt that I had really good control of the bike, did fine with the down shifting, I don't have the problem like I did in the very begining where I would stall out at stop signs..

The more I learn to trust the bike the more comfortable I feel. So, for all of the new riders out there keep practicing it does get easier and it's really soooo worth it.
That's all for now, thanks for reading..

Woke up this morning to thunderstorms

so riding was out of the question. We've entered the wonderful season of tropical storms and hurricanes. Oh well, at least we can use the rain we were having some pretty wicked fires a few weeks back because of the dryness.
Another weekend gone by...

Time to pretty her up!
I took my bike over to the guy who's going to fix the front fender and painting the bike for me so he can see what he's working with. I told him what I wanted and he was going to work on some drawings for me to see later on today. I'm also going to clean off the back fender, im getting rid of the license plate and brake light and installing an out law plate holder and stop light on the side of the bike. I'll be changing the seat as well to a Corbin Gunfighter modle. It's a nicer more contoured seat than the stock seat which is just ugly... I'm calling Corbin today for some color samples because I want to go with something other than black. I'll be dropping off the bike after bike night on Thursday. My weekend is shot for riding anyways, so it's a prefect time for him to work on it.
I can't wait to see what he comes up with today!
