a few things to look out for....?
ask the owner why the miles are so low ?, also if they wheely'd it,
they will prob say no.

check the sprockets for wear , and check the chain, also check the air filter, if its full of dirt and crap like that , you can bet the miles are much higher..

I have 6000miles on mine and the air filter looks brand new, a few little leaves but very new looking...

and if you dont know how to check these things, ask they owner to drive it to a dealer for an inspection....

if it was wheely'd alot, the bike could have been starved of oil, and become a mojor expense for you to fix...

the 03+ have a digital cluster, very easy to change those miles..,
there is a company on the net that does it for $100.00
and dont ask , because I wont post the website....

do a google search and you might find them.

anyway , hope that helps, it has low miles, but ya its an 03, get him to go down on the price. or buy new,

The problem with buying newer used bikes is many owners are smoking illegal substances. They keep thinking if they pamper it, that translates into ridiculous resale amounts. I rather ride a bike that the owner rides than some pampered toy. My reasoning is if a real biker is going to ride it, he is going to definitely make sure it runs right, while posers will just bring it out to go to the local starbucks and talk. They usually leave it sitting around alot also. I don't care how much stealership work you put in a bike, if you have it sitting around 90% of the time.

That is to much for that bike period. The bike is easily found, there are endless of them for sale and even here at my rip off dealership in Dearborn heights michigan (who often try to sell stuff over MSRP) they were selling a 2005 leftover (new) sv650 for $4999 advertised. You could have probably talked them down more off that. So why buy a 2003 when you can get a 2006 new for not much more? I thought the idea of buying used was to save money.

What I like is when people sell bikes and say stuff like bike has never seen rain. HAHAHA what in the world does that mean to me? Its a motorcycle if it wasn't waterproof I wouldn't pay $10 for it much less let you add to the price for that.

Buy something beat up and working for now, I know you always hear this, but most bikes unless they cost serious $$ you will be tired of in a couple of months as a learner. This you probably wont be but you will be sick if you drop that $4k 'learner'. There are many 80s and 90s sport bikes you can get for cheaper that will be just as much fun or more fun than that SV.

I bought it... its like 4 years later. Still own it. I love this thing!

yeah, the SV650 is a damn solid bike. guy i work with has one and i keep trying to talk him into trading bikes with me for like a week or so but he isn't buying it.
