Some salesman at dealerships are just lazy bums. They know what gets them high commissions, and if you aren't earning them alot of money you are just wasting their time. They would literally rather wait around for another customer than sit down and do a few hours of work to sell you a 250.

I walked into one when i was shopping around for my bike...had the money in an envelope in my pocket.
asked the salesman about a couple of the used models. got a "come back when you're serious about getting a bike blah blah blah."
showed him my money, congratulated him on being capable of "procreating" up a wet dream and missing a commision....then went across the road
I sometimes think that people equate polite with pansy.

When I was trying to negotiate down the price of a black honda 599, I was told that yellow was a girls color. Needless to say, I bought the yellow one for less.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

As you all know by now, I ride a Triumph Bonneville. That was the bike I liked best at the local Kawasaki/Suzuki/Triumph/KTM dealer. I also was considering some of the smaller Kawi and Zuki cruisers.
There are two dealerships in my town. The other one is Honda/Yamaha. Honda and Yamaha make smaller cruisers, too. I didn't consider them. Wanna know why?
Because the jerky sales staff at this place let a customer with a new endorsement and $10K in his pocket stand there for 30 minutes, and blew him off each of the 5 times in 30 minutes he tried to get waited on!!!!
That's why.
I'm clueless as to how some dealerships stay in business, when they couldn't make a sale if it was handed them on a silver platter! Oh, well, not my problem. I'm happy with the bike I got.
Moral: when bike shopping, be prepared to vote with your feet.
