My bad, I forgot that the ninja

Image

Was a cruiser! Jeeze, whatever was I thinking? I mean, all cruisers have a fairing.... pegs below the rider, clip on handlebars, short rake, and high tail.

Sorry, Verm, I totally blew this one, he would look cooler in chaps and an open face on sportbike, erm... did I say sportbike? That must have been my Turret's acting up. I really meant cruiser.

Million dollar question, why are you calling it a ninjette?

Biker Boyz anyone?

where did i say that ninjette is a cruiser?
VermilionX wrote:as long as you get a full face helmet, then it will fit the style of the ninjette.

in my opnion, full face for sport and sporty looking bikes bikes and 3/4 helmet for cruisers is the way to go.

also, don't buy chaps if you're not a cruiser rider.

All that said...being a noob, he should still be "directed" to gearing up from head to toe. What the hell happened to ATGATT? Any choice he makes beyond that as to style, what to wear or not wear will be entirely up to him. At least we all can say he'd been advised well.

I've gotten some really great advice from people on this forum. Hence, I've a leather jacket, leather/textile jacket, more than one pair of riding pants, A* street boots, armor, gloves, and a FF helmet.

There are so many variables involved in a potential get-off, I just want to be riding as protected as I can be. Of course riding protected starts in your head with your attitude, but I digress...

I just don't get not wearing a full-face. Forget about the protection for a minute, but crap gets in your eyes so easily and goggles feel odd.

He calls it a ninjette because he thinks he is so much cooler with his gixxer 1000, and that the ninja 250 doesn't have a lot of power compared to other bikes, so it is "girly". You base everything totally on looks, which is something you should re-evaluate.

Guys, i just want to be biking another day. Sorry if my first post sounded a bit lop sided toward "style" but i more meant a correlation between different types of products that fit that type of bike style while not sacraficing saftey. For instance what products do you all personally use?

Umm... I think you are blowing this out of proportion. Any newb will realize by Verm's third or fourth post where his head is at....and I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it either. Who hasn't dressed up and posed in front of a mirror? Personally, and this is totally me, I think he should avoid cameras...but I suspect he doesn't need to because he has a good sense of humor about himself.

I've been picking my "first round" gear for decent levels of protection, highly visiblity, match to my climate, and, truth be told, price. The whole kit cost less than $400, which is pretty major when you are just starting out.

I came up with:
* Nolan N100E helmet (Yellow)*
* Joe Rocket Phoenix Jacket (Yellow)
* Fieldsheer gloves
* A pair of steel-toed boots I already owned.

*The helmet choice was 99% fit... if another helmet had fit me better, that's what I'd own.

I'd like a pair of leather pants. Then again I'd like a full Power Ranger suit (al la Verm, though NOT in those colors or poses) too... it is a matter of price and familiarity (ie knowing enough to know what to shop for) at this point.

First and most important, get a helmet. Full face. One that fits right. Don't look at cost, just try try try until you find the one that fits the best. Go to multiple stores and try on every brand you can find. When you find it, pay for it. Get a tinted shield too. Sunglasses under a helmet is a PITA.

Next you need an armored jacket. At leat get a textile one at first. They are cheaper and will get you through the main part of the riding season. Not too tight, you may want to wear a layer or two underneath when it is a little cooler. You can pick up a leather one later for the cool/cold days. But make sure it at least has elbow and shoulder armor or at least the pockets for it. You can get armor separately. Spine armor is also recommended and very common.

You also really need gloves and boots. DO NOT ride with sneakers. Gloves are cheap. Get some nice summer ones now. Later you can get a medium weight and then an insulated summer glove. Get really good, comfortable, waterproof boots now.

Finally, its a good idea to get some riding pants. I wear draggin jeans. You can get the jeans from the us company or if you go to the australia website you can get cargo pants, chinos or camo pants too. And there's a million other companies and styles of riding pants to choose from. Some come with armor, the draggin ones have kevlar in them... you just want to make sure you are protected with more than standard jeans that will only last 4 feet in a slide before you start losing skin and muscle tissue.

This seems like a lot, but you need it all. Take out a loan, charge it, sell your body, whatever you have to do. :wink:

it would be impossible for verm to avoid cameras, he's in LA..... the culture and breeding out there makes it so that when someone sees a camera they change and try to be cool. Plus, well, there are probably clicking cameras every 3.5 inches in that area, so, well, he cant avoid them anyways, might as well go along with it.

that being said, check out tourmaster's cortech line. I have their fusion jacket and solution boots, I also have joe rocket ballistic 5.9 pants which I highly DONT recomend based on style AND functionality, or unfunctionality that is, too hot, no good venting, melt very easily, ugly knee thingies. I am pretty happy with my HJC CL-14 helmet, though I wish it had an attachment system better than the old double loop deal. get two gloves if you live where its hot and cold. above 50 and my gloves are sweatshops, but below 50 you need that kind of insulation

It wasn't my intent to start a "Vermillion-bashing" session. I like the guy, and respect his enthusiasm for the sport. But IMO the helmet issue is much too important for the question of style or appearance to gain even a toehold in the discussion.

These days I wear a CL14 from HJC. Frankly it looks ridiculous on me, big all out of proportion, like a bobblehead. But it fits comfortably -- it was the most comfortable in the store -- and it's DOT and Snell certified. I believe it will keep my teeth in my jaw, my face on the front of my head, and my brains inside my skull in case of a crash. For $159, I can't ask for more.
