There is room for everyone on two wheels... If you needed help, for anything, those fat old Harley dudes would be the first to help you, because they are cool.

Ya know... it really amazes me the difference in attatiude between the "Harley Crowd" and the "Sports Bike Crowd."

I scares the hell outta me when I go to a local Harley site and there are warnings posted to stay away from certain roads because the "Crotch Rockets" are speeding around the there, and it's too dangerous for the Cruisers. We have so much in common yet there's a big black line drawn between the two groups. The Harley guys are no less safety concious than the Sport bikers. The sports guys wanna go 100 MPH... The Harley guys wanna go 100 miles. The Sports guys look for twisties and the Harley guys look for open road. Harley guys call the sport bikes "wannabe racers" while the Sports guys call the Harleys "buckets".

C'mon guys... there is enough common ground here to ease up on each other. We need to worry more about the ignorant cagers than what bike someone's riding, or how he's dressed. You might think the half helmet looks stupid, but I think the bright colored one piece racing suits look stupid... so what? To each his own. You might think it's unsafe to wear a half helmet... I think it's unsafe to pop a wheelie on the freeway, or to take that posted 40 MPH curve at 60.

We each have our own reasons for riding what we do. I can't stand the people that have to make these smart a$$ comments about someone that chooses to be different than them.

BTW - I'm one of those old fat dudes riding a Harley decked out in leathers... And I'm not trying to look cool... Read the board... Leather is safe.

I ride a cruiser, but I wear a full face helmet that meets Snell 2005 standards. As far as I'm aware, no half helmet could ever meet the Snell standard. I probably don't look like the average cruiser-style biker around here, but then again many never wear ANY head protection, only the sport bikers do more commonly. Again, like Mikeydude says, to each his own. I want to try to do all I reasonably can to minimize my risk on the road, which means a helmet that will not only protect my skull but will also prevent my face from disfigurement from a spill. It's a free country, so people can do what they wish, but I do wish that more bikers would try to be more safety conscious. But I won't have an ounce of sympathy when I see on the news that a biker was killed in a collision and was not wearing any protective gear or substandard protective gear.

I wish people where more safety conscious as well. However the people that need to think more about safety are cagers. You know... the people on cell phones... the people that switch lanes and never look... and the list goes on and on.

No matter what biker gets hurt, I always have sympathy for them and their families and I wonder what happened and how could it have been prevented. Was it the biker doing 100 plus MPH or was it some one on their cell or did they have one drink to many. We need to stick together and try to make cagers aware of us and to look for us. Most of the accidents that have happened around here it wouldn't matter what helment or what riding gear you had on... they were toast.

PS. there are some experts that say snells are to hard and in some accidents they can do more harm than good and they go on to recommend a dot helment for the best overall protection. the article was in a cycle world mag last year about this time.

Half helmet...full face...as long as we are free to choice...

At least these people that wear true "DOT" helmets are doing the right thing. I think the real darwin winners in the motorcycle world are the ones that wear the fake helmet..or novelty(spelling)..helmet...then to make matters worse...they put a fake DOT sticker on the helmet.???

For the record...I have both a half and a full face helmet I wear them both.....I will admit that I do not care for the full face...but can not beat it for cold weather and rain riding....
