Jeans are no match for the pavement either. I learned that one the hard way. As you can see the full face helmet is a good idea too.

I've seen jackets with "zip-off" sleeves. WTF is THAT?? Jeez

short sleeve (under the leather) in Florida. Already hitting the 80's.
Preforated leather that is. May have to go to lighter weight mesh soon. But wll always wear gear, it's a added defense against the blue hair crowd in Florida.

I learned about road rash, not on bikes but on rollerblades. Left a bluejean skid mark on a hill in Atlanta several years ago. I was flying down that hill. Took months for the thing to heal and still got the scar. Can't imagine sliding down a road w/o gear if I came off the bike. It hurts to think about it.
