Hell yeah, congrats man! I've got the 2005 non S model and I love it (when I'm not falling over in the rain or getting sideswiped by punk "O Ring" teenagers might I add). I think its plenty doable for a newbie, as I am one myself. And don't listen to VX, he likes plastic too much

Keep it naked (or half faired I guess)! Just watch the brakes in the rain...they're pretty powerful...keep the shiny side up!

Congrats.
I'd suggest doing the full fairing or the full naked. I just can't bring myself to like that half-faired business.

Two words: Frame Sliders
Congrats on your SV. I also have a 2005 SV650s, I think its a great bike with lots of longevity... more than just a newbie learning tool.
The throttle is a little touchy in first, practice being smooth on the throttle because everything else will flow from that.
Good Luck!!!

NICE BIKE.
I really wanted an SV badly.
It came down to buying something in the 3Kish range, or putting 3Kish down on a new SV.
I decided to NOT incur anymore debt, and bought something else.
I'll ride it till next spring. By then I can sell it, and I'll have enough cash to get that SV I've wanted desperately for the past couple years.
Congrats to you.

Awesome pick!
It's like looking in a mirror!

Bad shot I know, it's been 10 months since it's been out of the garage for a better shot.

now just add something like these.

Oh my god. That's freakin delicious!
I normally don't like the look of faired bikes but that one is damn good.
What fairings are those off of? It's not stock...
If I ever get a 650s I might have to do a little project....

No, I like the first one. Only problem with it is it looks like the fairings should be pushed over and up an inch or three.

For myself (I mean this in the best possible way), I am known to be very cautious and meticulous in most things I do - sometimes bordering on being anally safe. I will be sure to get plenty of practice in before I take to the major roads and highways.
i feel you there. im the same way. Momma says i have a "high self preservation instinct"
