Karma bites me in the "O Ring"
I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but can you tell us what sort of gear you were wearing when you had the accident? It may help persuade some of those people that are unsure about what to wear to get the right stuff.
Glad you and your passanger are pretty much ok, get well soon man.

2 full faces, 2 leather jackets, 2 steel toes
1 in jeans
1 in light canvas pants
I was not wearing jeans, and I got hurt the worst.
No head/facial injuries for either, I have onelittle scratch on the inside of my left elbow. and we both fractured opposite elbows which is really wierd. Thank god mine was worse. Feet are fine thanks to steel toes.
I definately had the worst road rash on my knees. The right is still seeping blood 3 days later. At the very least we should be wearing jeans (i wasn't) but riding paants or leather chaps are better.
Learn from my pain please.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Get well to you and your passenger.
I too found out the hard way that even Jeans are no match for asphalt. When I went down at about 10 mph or less and slid for maybe 20 feet. The knee in my jeans ripped out right away and the asphalt started ripping into my knee as well. That was eight months ago and my knee still looks pretty ugly where the road rash used to be.

I figured some of you would be interested in an update:
I'm starting to heal, I'd fractured my right elbow, dislocated left shoulder, and massive road rash on my knees. Elbow has almost full range of motion, occasional twinges of pain in my left shoulder, and my knees are slowly healing. Just the worst parts of it are left. It still hurts like bloody blazes, but I am healing. Hurray hurray.
On to the important stuff. I just got off the phone with my Uncle's mechanic, Jerry Chapman, and apparently he's one of the best in the area. I "tweaked" the forks (twisted them in the triple clamps) and destroyed both right side turn signals, the pegs on the right are both gone. I have new stuff on order for both. The footbrake was bent around under the frame, but he salvaged it for me. The frame is fine no problems there, I scraped a small area off the chrome at the back of the muffler, barely noticable, and there's a section of paint that was chipped off my tank. Overall nothing to major apparently with some odds and ends of scraped stuff which is to be expected when it hurtles down the road at high speed....
Anyways having talked to him, I was told that the sum total to get the Savage fixed is probably going to be about $500... much better then I was hoping, I was expecting at least a grand, so I'm excited, and my friend has corralled me into going to the gambling with some of that money.
I've had a couple of calls and e-mails asking if it's still for sale, I figure I'll let them know what happened and see if they still want it. I might be getting the 599 this season, which would make me crazy happy. But right now I'm just itching to get back out there. Life is better then I hoped.

At BuzZz's quiet yet forcefull instistance I have come aware of the fact that you may be desiring an update.
*you can stop hitting me now BuzZz*
I got my bike fixed up, took it to my uncles repair guy. What an awsome person, viet nam vet, loves to ride, despite the fact he cannot sit a bike anymore. He fixes these things in his spare time for fun mostly. So he did an amazing job. All told it set me back $470. 2 new turn signals, 2 new footpegs, general fixits, rebuild the front brake master cylinder and square the forks (they were twisted in the mount, not bent). So the bike is up and running. He "fiddled" with the carb, so it runs better then it did before.
As for myself, I'm healing slowly, I still have roadrash on my legs, my left shoulder still bothers me a little, but my fracture seems to have healed in my right elbow. I got my job back at Altasteel, so I'll hopefully be making phat stacks of cash this summer.
Which reminds me, I've sold my bike. Got $4200 for it, I was asking $4000, don't ask me how I worked that out. It left yesterday (April 30) and I immediately went shopping for the 599 that BuzZz has had me wet dreaming about since Feb. Damn you BuzZz. They want 9 grand for it. Can you believe that? NINE thousand dollars for a new one, well nine and change. Guess I gotta save up a little more, or look around... something. Not sure what I'm going to do anymore. But I gotta get a new bike, I miss my old one already.
If anyone knows of a cheap Honda 599 in and around the Edmonton area let me know
Other then that. Things are getting better. Yay
