I've got a 5.3 gallon tank on the 02 and average close to 60 mpg in good weather. Drops off to as low as 50 mpg in winter weather. Usually hit reserve at 220-240 miles with plenty of reserve to find gas.
407,211 miles in 30.1 years for 13,528 miles/year average. Started 7/21/84, updated 8/26/14
My Rebel gets averages 73mpg , but with the small 2.6 gal tank you still have to stop before you've done 200 miles. It's really the only thing I don't like about this bike.
The stock Katana 1100 got a minimium of 200 miles between fill ups, that's almost 40mpg, leaving a bit of reserve on the bottom of the tank. It's probably 10-20% less now - about 34-35mpg.
Despite a 1 tooth large than stock front sprocket, that mileage sucks. I'd drop a couple of teeth from the back but first gear is already as tall as I'd like.
My 1984 Honda Interceptor gets to 300km before it hits the reserve @ 120kmp. It reaches 300km with it's massive 6 Gallon + tank. Though with the 6 Gal tank , it makes for a top heavy bike.
i have a 1985 zl900a1 eliminator that goes on reserve at 78 miles.on my others i stop every 2 hours regardless of miles.i learned the hard way about being the tough guy and riding until i was in so much pain i had to get off.the ride back was absolutely excruciating.
This is a good thread. My bike has horrible range. It's pretty much the only thing that I don't like about my ride. I'm at about 33 mpg with a 4.5 gallon tank. If you do the math, that's about 150 miles until I hit fumes. However, my fuel light comes on around 90 miles and once, at the top of a hill fortunately, I stalled at 120 miles. I always think that I'll let it go to about 130 miles (I should be getting 150, right?), but I always chicken out at about 110.
I usually get about 190 miles before I think about reserve. Still have about 40 miles after that. I start looking for fuel around 170, just don't like to get that close to the edge.

It honestly doesn't bother me stopping every 2 hours to refuel. I like to get off and get a stretch. Plus, I'm usually thirsty by then and can always use some water.
I'm with Itzamna, I usually stop about every hour or so. That's one of the more enjoyable things I find about riding, the stops where you have a soda and chat with your riding buddy.
By the way, I get about 40 mpg and have a 5.5 gallon tank, I guess that takes it around 200 miles.
