Did you take the MSF? That might have been a smart thing to do before hopping on the bike.

Do kids who have never driven a car go out and buy new cars and rush out and start driving it? No. They usually have a parent teach them or take a drivers education course.

But for some strange reason, people think it's perfectly fine to go buy motorcycles and just start riding them with no formal instruction whatsoever. Weird. I'll never understand that mentality.

Well, have fun. I hope you don't hurt anybody out there.

i think you need to re read what i said buddy. driving up and down the street in my neighborhood, not exceeding 30mph, isnt putting anyone at risk besides myself. i was told how to ride, then i got on the bike and started practicing. take your head out your a$$

I don't want to sound like someone with my head up my "O Ring", but I do believe he has a point.

Being that you never touched a bike before, and accidently gave it too much throttle and dropped it, I would say any place that has the potential to have bystandards would have been risky.

I would hope that you would have the foresight not to practice if there are kids playing outside in their yards, or any unleashed animals, since accidents can happen. Say you gave it too much throttle and you fell off the bike, but the bike didn't tip over. It could easily go down the street on it's own, hit someone's car/house/child, etc. Or you could have just as easily dropped the clutch, got confused and before you could squeeze the brakes, hit one of the aforementioned things.

So when you say you were only risking yourself... I don't buy that.

Also, you would have saved yourself scratches on your new bike, and a lower resale value. The cost of even just the scratches on your bike is more than what it would have been to take the MSF.

Fixed it for you...

You're telling him to get his head out of his "O Ring", yet you can't handle the "power" of an EX250, the least powerful sportbike available?

With an attitude like that, I'd expect no one to be nice to you from here on out...

It's cause people think motorcycles are like bicycles in that everyone can ride them.

I'll toss in a story from my childhood. Happened... over 20 years ago now...

An across-the-street neigbor had a kid (17 or so) who bought himself a "minibike"... big puffy wheels, lawnmower engine powered, maybe 10HP on a good day... was playing with it on the street (it wasn't street legal) or maybe even just in his driveway (we were never quite sure)... he managed to start it, and have it go shooting down the street with no rider.

Of course, this riderless mini-missile headed straight for our house, our parked car, me, my mother, my brother.... My father, who had just arrived home from work and was dressed in slacks and a dress shirt, saw it coming and tackled it, knocking it over....he wound up with about $50 worth of clothes ruined, some bruises and cuts, and a burn from the exhaust pipe.

That's the problem...a harmless little bike, and undoubtably the owner felt he was "being responsible".

As a *probably* unrelated postscript... a few weeks later my father was admitted to a hospital in a rush surgery... the doctors feared a large cancerous growth. They started an operation and wound up removing one kidney... after they removed it they decided it was not cancerous tissue. It has been theorized, but nobody had any way of prooving, that he may have injured his kidney stopping the neighbor kid's mini-bike.

Whoa there little buddy :D no need to get all worked up.

You know what, im not gonna give you this whole talk about taking the MSF first. Yeah I think it's necessary, but plenty of people have learned to ride with out it. It's not gonna stop you from accidents happening, but you'll have the knowledge to avoid some of them from happening. HOWEVER, I think you need to change your view on not putting anyone at risk, especially in a neighborhood and you've already been given plenty of reasons why.

Im sorry to hear about your bike, im glad that the fall didn't intimidate you, and I hope that you can find the time to take the MSF. You'll need the class anyways to get your endorsement.
