Dude, Earwig, no one here recommends that people should ride a small cc bike AFTER they have some road experience. They can (and should) ride whatever the hell they want - AFTER gaining the skills necessary to do so safely and competantly.

Finally, I ride with my wife on a 50 Horsepower 800cc BMW Air-Cooled twin. I ride on freeways with all of our luggage and stuff. The bike does just fine. Many of my italian neighbors do the same with 500cc parallel twins or 650cc singles or v-twins (Talking Honda Transalp not SV650's)

Your opinion is fine, but just realize that it's pretty narrow in its scope. Just like I Fly saying "Any car that gets 40mpg is embarrasing to drive..." you are both limiting yourselves and it's pretty sad actually.

I just find it kind of ridiculous that someone would need to go from 0 to 60 in 2-3 seconds.

I can't see the justification for that off the track. I'm still chalking bigger bikes up to ego and looks. Or track bikes.

And don't get me wrong. After my stint on my 500cc I plan to buy a 600cc+ bike. But only for the looks because I like how they look. It'll be more powerful sure but that would only be part of why I'd buy a larger bike.

The SV650/s still makes me drool a bit. That bike is hawt.

You guys are twisting what i was talking about... you don't need to ride a motorcycle at all if you want to put it that way...

True, but you don't need to drive a car either if you wanna go that route.

TechBMW... maybe I don't know how to express what I mean well... I agree with you but some people on here almost make it seem like a crime if you want more out of a motorcycle than what you NEED just to get around etc.

I don't think anyone thinks that.

I think you're referring to Kal. All Kal is trying to say (from what I gather) is that people buy 600cc+ bikes because they think that their lower bikes suck and don't have the power to do what they want them to do when in reality they just aren't riding their ride right.

Enjoy your honeymoon! And don't worry, I'm sure the arguement will have expanded a lot by the time you get back and be ready for you to pick it up again....

Probably 75% of the world's riders do it for practical purposes. In NA (and a few other places) the majority of riders do it for Pleasure and Escape. It's 2 different worlds, yeah, but we're all bikers.

Me personally - I went from a 130hp bike (Honda CBR1000 Hurricane) to my current 50hp ride. I like the BMW ALOT more for a number of reasons, but it still has the ability to go fast and be exciting.

Maybe other people you are referring to just don't express themselves very well either. People (Like me) have had more than enough experience to have gone from small to big and then back to small ... etc etc so when someone makes it seem like bigger bikes are the only way to go, it gets people riled up. It's just a narrow opinion. But there's no reason why we should get pissy - we all have narrow opinions in something or another -

Have fun on your trip !! May I make a Suggestion - RENT A SMALL SCOOTER! Put your girl on the back and cruise around for a while. It can be just as fun as your big bike, especially when there's someone there to share it with!
