Thanks everyone for your input. After doing some more research, I don't think I want to put over $3000 into it. I am fearful that I will tear it up, and don't want to do that to an expensive bike. I have also been reading about these cheap knockoff yamaha's called Lifan (LF250). Has anyone had experience with these? It seems like a cheap starter. Feel free to opine.

Look into a used japanese bike. you could find some pretty decent 90s vintage japanese cruisers for around 3000.

Take a strong and serious look at Yahama's V-Star 1100 custom. I think you'll be impressed and the value cannot be beat by any cruiser on the market.

i am biased, but i would say look at a Honda Shadow 750 (spirit, ACE, etc.)

nice cruiser and low seat height and if you set the rear shocks correctly, your "largeness" shouldn't have a problem (i'm 245ish and ride it two up on the highway with my fiance (who is like 120 or so) and it does just fine.

you could probably pick up a 2001 or so for around your budget.
