I'm taking my Yamaha to the Triumph dealer down the street from my house to have them install a new rear tire. I didnt buy the tire there, and they didnt seem to mind a bit. A friend of mine took his BMW there to have them perform some type of emerency work (like a flat tire or something, i forget what it was) and they said, "ok, well this will take most of the day, so why dont you take one of our demo bikes and bring it back sometime before we close". He wasnt a triumph owner, and didnt even normally shop there.

He got a Triumph ST for the day.

They are smart. They dont care what you ride, they're going to be nice to you, and help you out when they can. Makes people come back, even if they dont buy a Triumph. You can also demo thier bikes for a day, no cost at all. Two friends of mine took an ST and a Triple out for the day. They didnt buy them or anythng, and the dealer didnt even seem to care.

I have been to a Harley dealer a few times, always the same one. It didnt seem like a motorcycle shop as much as a harley clothing store, with a few bikes thrown in. I cant really comment on the service there, but it didnt have the motorcycle shop feel to it.

That's all rhetoric. The same guys who say they'd never buy anything but American are working for big American industry - I'd guess. It their jobs would have been with Japanese firms when they started out working, I bet they'd have taken those jobs. The folks around the Honda Marysville plant took jobs where they were. Honda has provided a lot of American jobs in reality.

Funny.... read a MotorTrend mag in a doctor's office.... they compared four cars: Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and Ford. The Japanese Toyota and Honda were assembled by inhabitants of the USA in Kentucky and Ohio. The Korean Hyundai was assembled by inhabitants of the USA in Alabama. The USA-branded Ford was assembled by inhabitants of Mexico in Sonora.

Oooops..... which is the "USA-branded" car?

The "buy USA brands" point of view doesn't make much sense when only the "imports" are build in the USA!

I laugh at those comments re. "buy American". Those that say it are really behind the times when it comes to basic knowledge of the world economy. To be competitive in a global market today, companies have to outsource litterally every component. Not everything is outsourced, but to be competitive, outsourcing has to be an option.

If you break down a Harley, I'm willing to bet that there are as many foreign parts as there are domestic parts when compared to a Honda or a Kawasaki. It's true in cars. I can't fathom it being different for bikes.

Besides, I bust my arrse for my money so I want to get the most value whenever/whatever I purchase. If all things being equal, I'll choose American made, American owned products and services. But I'll be damned if I choose American from just plain pride.

America, otherwise known as North America. Canadians, people from the US, and Mexicans all live in America.

You didn't miss anything. It was a wry political comment. Mexico and all the border and immigration issues. It is a defeatest joke. Mexico has the rights and we pay the taxes. Like that I think.
