Yes, I know about Apex Air and Alpinestars pants, but I don't want track pants or cargo pants. I want _overpants_ with a full-length zipper on the legs since so far I've only used my bike four commuting and touring. This is the closest thing I found.

If it's too hot to wear gear, it's too hot to ride.

Can anyone tell me if these leather overpants will be too hot in California in the summer if I just wear shorts underneath?

I already have Joe Rocket Phoenix suit, so I can use it for commuting on the really hot days (I don't need to go on the freeway), but I am looking for something more durable that I can wear 90% of the time.
thanks in advance.
riding in the summer in the heat is the suck. It blew big time with leather pants in the summer. I live in LA and i had to ditch the leather pants and look for alternatives. No matter what kinda air flow crap they say, if its leather, it will be hot, sticky and probably uncomfortable.

Ooh, I like those A-stars pants.
I wonder though, do they offer as much protection as leather pants? I'd guess not but I don't know for sure. I'm looking to pick up some pants/boots here in the next couple weeks.

That's odd. I went on another ride on Mulholland last sunday. It was a pretty hot day. I asked several people who wore perforated leather gear how it felt, and they all said that once you're moving at least 40mph, it gets quite comfortable. Obviously I don't expect it to feel good if I'm stuck in traffic, but then even my mesh gear gets hot if you're not moving at all.
Oh yeah, I researched this issue carefully and basically came to the conclusion that there is no substitute for leather. The only things that matches or perhaps even exceeds its abrasion resistance is Motoport's kevlar/cordura/lycra blend, but it's not mesh and it costs nearly twice as much as leather.

Someone had newenough.com mentioned up there. if you wantfull length overpants that have a zipper you should definitely check out their Joe rocket ballistic 5.0 pants. i have a pair and love them. they afford plentyof protection, but they also arent to hot. they have two pockets on the front, full padding, full length zipper, 8 inch jacket zipper, and they are like $140. not too shabby if you ask me. i have them and love them.
