The kid on the dirt bike will learn the first time he gets in an accident.

I have noticed around here that most of the gear wearing riders are either A. young, B. older, or C. not riding a cruiser.

the vast majority of the non-gear wearing types here are middle aged and normally riding a cruiser. There does seem to be a lot of pressure to NOT wear gear in the cruiser crowd.

I know one guy who is an ABATE member but wears an armored jacket and flip up helmet when hes riding solo, when hes around his ABATE buddies all the gear comes off.

I have seen my wifes cousin who rides a Harley Road King get some seriously dirty looks because she wears full gear including a fullface helmet.

There was a woman in my MSF class who could not for the life of her understand why a full face helmet is worth the extra protection. She kept saying "well, if I'm only going for a short ride, I'll wear a 3/4 helmet", the instructor just asked if she knew when she was going to die, because that's the only reason not to wear it on a "short ride".

sad to say it but a lot of the people out riding now only do it for the image, not for the ride.

Here in my part o' the world, gearless riders span all. You can't even generalize which types of riders don't wear gear. I see just a many dudes on gixxers and R1's wearing only the required eye protection as I do dudes on Harleys and metric cruisers.

I mostly see the young dudes sans gear on the sportsbikes and the older dudes sans gear on the cruisers.

I've never noticed any attitude though by non-geared riders toward geared up riders. I always get waves and friendly chats at lights. And usually observe the same when I'm in the cage.

I am taking my motorcycle course right now and the instructor was telling us a story of a student he had who absolutely would not wear a full face helmet (too clausterphobic, liked wind in his face etc.). After a lesson one day this fellow was walking along in his open face helmet chatting up a girl (a fellow student) when, as he was distracted, he tripped and fell. He bit his tongue hard, had a split lip, etc. Before the next lesson he had a full face helmet. He married the girl too

Puh-lease can we not start this stereotyping arguement again....it's been rehashed so many times on so many other threads!

What I do this is strange is the clothing worn by people who ride scooters. Shorts, bathing suits....you name they'll wear it. Don't they realize falling off a scooter at 40 mph is the same as falling off a motorcycle at the same speed. Asphalt doesn't care you're only riding a scooter

No, No, no. You have it all wrong. A full face is a much more effective helmet to convert to a beer bong. You can drill holes through the chin piece to hold the tubes in place so they don't fly out on ya.

I should know, thats what I did to mine after having to many problems with wayward tubes on my 3/4 face helmet.
