You've pretty much said it. It's like when you buy a certain type of car - suddenly you see the same car everywhere you go.

No matter what I'm wearing, I always operate with the assumption that I'm not being seen by anyone else. I think more reflective material is a good idea for night riding, but other than that I think the difference with wearing bright colors during the daytime would be negligible.

True, I always ride like people don't see me, and I think I "pee" off the people behind me by slowing down at interesections, or side roads. If I see someone who seems to be creeping out, or looks like they see me, I'll just wave at them or honk the horn or something to get their attention. Again, I think this annoys people, but I'd rather annoy people than have them hit me.

As far as the vest, I don't think it will help too terribly much, but I want to to take any help I can get.

I upgraded to a 125 db horn last winter. It's not enough. I've had people look right at me, while I'm leaning on the horn button, and pull out anyway. I want a horn loud enough to make cagers run and hide behind trees!!!

I bought the orange safety sash belt, fits easily over your riding jacket and only $16 plus P&P.

Not worth waiting to buy something more pricey IMO.

Most bicycle stores carry reflective vests.

Actually today I almost left-turned a motorcyclist. I applaud him for not running into my passenger door (he swerved very gracefully).

If he hadn't honked his horn (and flipped me off) as he went by I would've never even known about it. I was wondering the same thing. Why the hell did I not see him?

What stuck out in my mind was:

A) His lights werent even on. No brights to catch my attention.
B) His bike wasn't a bright color, was a black color that blended in with the building behind him.
C) His gear was all black as well, same deal as the bike.


I applaud him for not running into my cage, but I don't applaud him for his gear color choices. Making it harder for cages to see you isn't very safe.

At least cars are, more often than not, colored. And I have overlooked cars that have blended into the background as well.


Now, overlooking a bright colored bike, I don't know. Never done that before.

I bought a black bike because it was the best deal I could find. I bought all black gear because at the time I didn't realise there was a problem with it. Which is why I want reflective bright stuff, and when I get a new gas tank and side plastic for the bike, I'll probably paint it orange or red.

I've noticed more motorcycles these days, but I'm not sure if it's because I'm mildly close to being able to get one of my own or because there are more people riding them (or maybe both).

Also, along with the buying and seeing the same car everywhere; it's not just the same car, but also the SAME color! I once found the same exact vehicle with almost the same license plate # (just the last number was different!) That was kind of freaky...

Cam... if there is a Harbor Freight near you check them out... they have reflecto vests for $5. The premo vest is $6.

It is "America's Favorite [cheap imported Chinese/Indian] Tool Store..."

They sell imported hand and power tools, machine tools, welders, safety supplies, toys, etc...usually for about 1/3rd the price of similar items from "real" manufacturers.
