Hey guy if you're still here, here's a serious answer. It should also explain the other answers. I have to do this because I hate seeing even the "dumbest" question left unanswered in full.
The amount of work and knowledge it would take to do an engine swap and the fact that a 250cc twin (I believe) is so enormously different than a 88cI V twin means that knowing if it's possible makes it extremely obvious that your question is misguided - meaning it's the WRONG question.
The right question is probably "what kind of bike should I look to buy that has a bigger engine"
or based on your wanted ad thread: "how can I get into motorcycle customization".
Because if you really could already perform any engine swap, you'd already know the answer to your question.

But, the original post was obviously a joke.
I mean, putting a 1400cc engine in a Honda Rebel? WHY!? (He asked for 88 cubic inches which equals 1400cc.)
That would be like someone saying, "Hey, how can I put a Lamborghini Diablo engine in a Mini Cooper?"
I mean, there is no WAY someone is serious about that ...
Uh... Right? ... It ... It WAS a joke? ... Wasn't it? ...

I'd rather get the sportster and put a Rebel engine in it.

So that leaves us with the question of who has a higher opinion of mankind in general, doesn't it?
