"There's a problem with people racing up there ... the rope was up to try and slow people down,''
I love this, along with the description that is was put up for "Safety Reasons"

I don't know how these people have survived for so long without Darwin taking effect but they really do sound like they came from the shallow end of their gene puddle...

Silly Californians with their silly excuses for their stupidity.

By the way, before any gets offended by that, it was a joke, I'm a Californian, so don't take it personally, and you'll be golden.

The rest of this story (so far) is in the News Forum. I didn't post it here because of the outrageous chance that these people may not be convicted (Not even accused of attmpted murder or manslaughter)

I posted it because these people (Apparently) put the rope up because of people riding like asshats on their street. The victim may not have been a squid, but that was the entire point - The victim was almost killed by these idiots because they percieve ANY motorcyclist to be part of the problem.

There was a news article a few years ago about suburbanites in the UK spilling diesel on the curves in their streets in order to make squidley sportbikers fall. The public perception of us ties in directly to how safe we are on the public roads. In my Opinion, people acting squidly on public roads deserve to be drummed out of the motorcycling community, so to speak. Acceptance of that kind of behavior only works to defeat us in the long run.

Ahh, so they're not really eco terrorists after all. Anyhow, this whole public perception was started after WWII when army men loved biking, then they became the tough guys of their era and then Hollywood (bunch of no funs) decided it was profitable to make bikers look like bad guys by showing how motorcyclists terrorized law abiding people. And it didn't help that some people liked the bad boy image.

Ever since then not much good press has ever surfaced about motorcycles. I remeber reading in Road Bike that one of the staff read an article about a charity run and near the end was a question on who was watching the money inciting that motorcyclists are crooks.

Then there was another story about a Porsche and a motorcycle racing in the street and the cop was chasing them and from what the story sounded like the freakin pig was watching the sport bike and once the cop died only the motorcyclist was facing charges (from what I read so far).

So basically most of the western world sees bikers as a nuisance in contrast with some places like the Phillipines where they lynch you if you steal a bike.

I feel angry...
