I used Telnet to play MUDs (mainly Mirkwood) then I graduated up to MUSHclient, which I still use (to play Mirkwood, 8 years later).

camthepyro wrote:Haha, I know, that was my point, for me, that's old school. IRC and Telnet are before my time man. I mean, I was alive, but not using computers. Before like '97 the only thing I did on a computer was play LodeRunner on an old Mac. In '97 my dad bought a gateway with a 133mhz processor and like 32mb of ram. Then I started using ICQ, and playing Diablo (which I still play because it kicks "O Ring"), Duke Nukem, and GTA.
weird, thats when my dad got out first comp... same thing too, gateway, 133mhz, 32mb ram... bleh lol

awesome idea man, nice to talk to u guys

Haha, I think those gateways were pretty popular back then. The school I went to for my freshman year of high school (Fulton County Charter High School of Mathmatics and Science, the name makes it sound really fancy, but it was actually crap. The school was in an old furniture store, and ended up closing in it's third year, because it was abou $800k in debt) had about a hundred donated gateways (same type as mentioned earlier) and I ended up buying like three of them for like 20 bucks each from the school.

My dad has had a computer since before I was born. The first computer I played with was a Commadore 64, I remember playing a fischer-price game and BC. Infact, I learned to type before I could write.

my dads first computer had to be put together, inside of a wooden box!
no really

he's been a programmer since the late 60's, early 70's. Actually he was an electrician first, then a programmer.

That's modern stuff! I've still got an old 8080 and a zilog z80 8 bit machine in a closet. With 4K of ram!

4K? You had 4K?

On my first computer I measured the RAM in bytes!

Actually, the first computer that was "officially" mine had 1K for about the first 24hrs, at which point a second 1K IC was pigibacked onto the first to give 2K total. ZX81 baby...one of the first kits... assembled by my dad and given to me in 1981...

The first professional programming I did was on machines where the RAM was measured in bytes. Programs ran from ROM and the system had 32 bytes available for application variables... hard to imagine today....
