Ducati have already said that the RR will not be homologated for racing.

More pictures can be found, and in high res, here:

Check out the exhaust exit.

check out www.ducati.com

Wasn't Ducati the one to start the undertail exhaust trend with the 916... I'm looking forward to the "through the tail" trend, I hope there's a lot of insulation in there.

I don't think they're particularly worried about this bike "doing much" for them. Like a Veryon or Enzo it's a declaration of purpose and a means of positioning themselves in the marketplace. Having this bike in their lineup will help sell all their bikes. I think they're only planning on 400 annually.

yup only 400 a year, and 999R owners get first priority.

thats 100 shy of the number needed to homologate. If they built 500 they could have homologated it and ran it in superbike

kabob983 wrote:$65,000? That's less than I heard.

Anyways, how long is it going to be before we start seeing these in the AMA/WSBK races? Once they're a production bike, they'll be legal, so Ducati will have the option to run their ex-GP bike in these races.

I figured that since everyone was moving to 800cc's for MotoGP that more makers would offer their GP-replicas to the public though...
I'm thinking that the reason that they are releasing it now is that Moto-GP rules state that there can be no-street bike parts in any machines in that class. The WCM had originally been found to have a super-modified R-1 engine in their bike and they were shut down because of it. The new 800cc bikes must be significantly different for Ducati to get around this rule.
Now the blur begins:
With manufacturers building street bikes based on Moto-GP bikes and Superbikes based "very losely" off of production bikes the two series will begin to cause fans to wonder what came first, the chicken or the egg. I can forsee some required rule changes in order to differentiate the series enough for both to succeed. This could be interesting....

I agree. The "production" bikes the AMA and WSBK riders are on are...well, they're closer to GP bikes than street bikes by the time they stop modifying. I mean, look at alot of the parts, you'll see the same on both. Ohlin's forks, brembo brakes, etc. I think you can find them on both sides of the fence.

the main difference between a superbike and a MotoGP bike is the superbike has to use the frame and driveline from the production bike, but can be modified quite a bit, and they cant use most of the electronic aids that the MotoGP bikes use.

MotoGP bikes are racing machines only and use frames and drivelines that are purpose built for GP racing, the suspension and brakes may be the same parts that are used on superbikes but thats just coincidence. MotoGP bikes are also allowed to use numerous electronic aids. MotoGP bikes are virtually unridable without these electronic aids.

Yeah, I heard that last week. They sold all 400 of 2007's stock in under 5 hours. People were running out and buying 999R Xerox's so they'd be high up in line. A guy in my riding club's neighbor bought a 999R Xerox and put a down payment on a Desmosedici RR. The 999R is sitting in a crate in his garage. Oh the humanity!

that's insane!

i wonder if the others will follow and sell a street version of their GP bikes.

my next favorite GP bike is the RC211V. i heard that it's the best GP bike out there and even amatuer racers can be really fast on it.
