The autobahn isn't that great ... very very strict rules. and they are strictly enforced. You want something to dream about, try the Italian Autostrade. No cops and no one cares about the speed limit.
Or try the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is Federal Land and if you get a speeding ticket it only cost $75. No courts, no points. Just pay the fee and be on your way. Yes, I know firsthand.

Hey Nemo!
My XS650 kept up pretty well with a new Kawasaki 750 Zephyr a few years ago...
If you're having charging problems, I'd check the brushes. I'd also take off the battery cables and wirebrush/sandpaper both them and the battery terminals to make sure you have a good connection -- my bike's touchy about that.

if you think you hear some noise now put a windshield on it and you will thing it is a rock crusher.on the charging system it has brushes that you can replace fairly easy.that usually fixes them.

Yeah, but with all the sharp turns and the herds of wild animals running free and fearless on the roads, I find it pretty hard to do more than 40 MPH there. I think the cops are there more for our protection than anything else, to keep us from wiping out on the side of a deer...

From my experience, the autobahn is great for getting from one place to another in a short period of time, but as Tech said, it's not a raceway or anything to get your adrenaline pumped for.
The autobahn also can have horrible traffic and even worse accidents when they do happen.
Fun in Europe

My new M109R chatters like crazy..it's normal but unsettling when you first go out riding on it. It's normal from the reviews I've read.

The BEST road I've ever ridden on in Europe is the A12 from Monaco to La Spezia.

Killer twistys, tunnels that run down and up hill, tunnels with curves that bust out onto bridges over deep chasms then back into tunnels.
COOL COOL COOL
If you eve get the chance, make sure to ride this one at least once in your life.
