Mine would have to be the seagull I took to the head at 150km/hr. Cruising the TransCanada Hwy with no one in sight, I decided to make up a little time on this really long straight where I could see waaaaaay ahead of myself.

I notice some birds stirring above the highway, and don't really think too much of it, because birds always get out of the way, right? Well 5 or so of the group did, but the dummy in the gang decided to swing around and check out the logo on my helmet.

I'm probably lucky it wasn't a direct hit (assuming a direct hit at that speed would have been worse), even though it sure as hell felt like one. The impact was so hard I swerved, had my feet come off the pegs, wobbled a little, and I had trouble keeping my eyes wide open. I pulled over and layed down in the grass for 20 minutes before continuing. I had a headache for a few days afterwards.

Now I'm friggin' paranoid of birds. I swear they all sense this, as I'm constantly *almost* hitting birds, even in my cage. Birds know all. They are the devil.

the worst feeling on a bike is whenever youre still brand new to riding, youre doing 50 and you look down for a split second only to look back up and see you are about to hit a curb and there is no way of avoiding it. my heart skipped a beat and i almost crapped my pants

I have one like that. Doing about 50 down a one-lane dirt road in the middle of the desert where my grandparents lived on a Honda 70. I look away for a second "Hey, a stick!" then look back "HOLY EFFING ESS! BIGASS ROCK!" This rock the size of my head was about 10 feet in front of me and I had NO time to react. I hit it square on. The bike wobbles, the rear wheel kind of kicks out, but I managed to stay upright. I stop the bike, turn around, and drive back to the rock. I get off and toss the rock over to the roadside and pee on it for making me almost fall.

Okay, I didn't pee on it. I didn't have to go, or I would have.

Mine actually just happened tonight. I was sitting in a turn lane waiting to turn left on a two-lane road (with the turn lane in the middle). The turn is in the middle of a big sweeping uphill right-hander. I'm sitting pretty much dead in the center, maybe a little left of center of the turn lane waiting on oncoming traffic to clear so I can turn left... signal's on, everything. Even my brake light is lit because I'm sitting on a pretty good uphill.

Cars are passing me on my right, but the headlights of one look a little too bright. Sure enough, some girl on her cellphone swings the turn WAY wide and misses me by about 6 inches in her Honda Civic. I swear I felt the mirror brush me. Needless to say I rode down to my buddy's house and had to lay down for a while.

The worst one so far. I was riding on a side street with one lane in each direction at about 30MPH. There's a bicycle in the opposing lane coming towards me. I don't think much about it until I see a huge car (crown vic) swing out to pass the bicycle and said car proceeds into my lane [coming towards me head on]. It was an elderly women driving I had to pull over as far right as I could without eating the curb. I don't even think the eldery women knew what she did.

My heartrate instantly doubled on that one.

I don't think the elderly are aware of many of the things they do. EVERY time I get behind some knob on the road (car or on my bike) it turns out to be an old person or someone on a cel phone. I mean c'mon independence is one thing but when you're traveling down a busy interstate at like 40MPH, its time to turn in your keys.

my scariest moment was on my old CX500. was riding down a pretty busy street at about 30mph when the SUV in front of me slammed on his brakes for no apparant reason. The craptastic brakes on the CX managed to get me to a screeching kinda sideways (the bike fishtailed a bit because the back tire locked up) halt about 6 inches from the SUVs back bumper
