Insurance without a license is easy. Expensive maybe, but easy.

I also bought my bike before I got my license and didn't have trouble getting insurance. They just told me to let them know when I finished MSF so they could give me the discount. (didn't ask for proof either when I did.)
Depending on where you live, some dealers won't let you out the door without insurance if you finance the bike. I didn't finance any of my bikes and the dealers still required insurance. (TX)

In Ohio it made no difference that I had a MC license to get insurance. The insurance is based on driving record, age, other insured vehicles, etc... It didn't even make a difference (to my insurance company) that I had taken the MSF course. The same was true with purchasing the bike. Just bring in the dough. You have to check the laws in your own state to be sure.

Interesting. Wrong.....but interesting.
you dont have to have the licence to buy the policy but if the insurance finds out that you dont have the licence when you take out a claim they will deny it. if you dont have a licence that makes you riding illegal and they dont have to cover it/wont. same with your car. but i thinks its good to disagree with people without offering any explaination of your viewpoint or facts to back up what you say.

So, did your insurance company refuse to issue you a policy when you had your permit?

i didnt ever have a permit, i had an m-class licence when i bought my bike. but a permit would amount to some type of a licence hence would be insurable.
TN (to my knowledge) does not do permits for bike licences.
