I believe PAMSP and MSF do that excercise to get you used to the friction zone as well as the weight and balance of the bike.

In my class we "walked" the bikes while using the clutch to find the friction zone. We never had to walk the bikes to the starting point.
When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
