He probably had a reaction to support him self as he wnt down and snap cracle tear. But really who knows, the actuall geometrical calculated angle to avoid is...being on one wheel.

by the way his feet are in the air, it looks more like his foot got caught in the front or rear tire and it ripped his foot in.
