Top-gear roll-on, 60-80 mph: 4.44 sec.
Fuel mileage (low/high/average): 38/44/41

PERFORMANCE
Fuel mileage: 35 to 45 mpg, 40.5 mpg average
Average range: 202 miles
RPM at 60 mph, top-gear: 2560
200 yard, top-gear acceleration from 50 mph, terminal speed: 72.0 mph
Quarter-mile acceleration: 14.09 sec., 90.7 mph
With his upgrades, he might pull a 13sec quarter mile. My money is still on the SV650.

I talked to my dad, he didnt initally realize just what kind of bike I bought. He sat down, ran some numbers himself, and has accepted his fate, that is, he realizes that he will be looking at my taillights when we line them up later this summer. So, Ive got a few month to work on my riding skills, I've already 500 miles on and I'm feeling pretty comfortable on it. No drops or accidents of any kind(yet), just two stalls, both on upward inclines, those are definately a little tricky. Makes me wish I had gotten a bike a lot sooner, so far Snowmobiling is still my #1 love, but motorcycling moved into second pretty quick.

there's nothing wrong or flame worthy about bench racing, its way safer than real racing, go ahead and compare stats till you can't read anymore. Your bike though, will eat his, straight line you wont eat it as much as corners, but still, he's got all that weight and a low end torque biased engine. Yeah his engine is HUGE but its pushing a HUGE bike and is designed NOT for speed but for easy cruising. when you go around a corner you will REALLY see the difference as you can dive deep down in, WAY past the point where he is dragging everything on his bike.
there are a few power cruisers out there that could take a bunch of sportbikes, but not many, and the road king aint one of them. Then again an 800 mile day will favor him more, he'll still be nice and ok, you'll be sore and tired.

hmm sounds like a trip to the dragstrip is in order.
if you can get a good start you will pull away from him fast. He has the advantage coming off the line as the road king is much less likely to pull the front wheel up. the SV can wheelie in 1st gear without too much trouble.
The SV is quite a bit faster than its 73hp would suggest. I have ridden one and it was just as fast as my 600 bandit which has about 10hp on the SV (bandit is rated at about 83hp), the SV also had a lot more low end torque than my bandit. Had I not found my bandit I would have likely bought an SV instead.

Yeah, I learned this yesterday. As my confidence is growing, so is my willingness to twist the throttle ever harder, yesterday I got a surprise. It was right after a slow left hand turned I decided to crank the throttle way open, low and behold, the front wheel popped right of the ground about 5 inchs, that got my attention pretty quick. My dad definately has an advantage on the start, no matter how hard he twists the throttle or lets out the clutch, his bike wont come over on him.

if you're on the naked model and lightweight then I would imagine the front would come up pretty easy. I am pretty heavy (245 w/gear) and on the S model and its not very easy to pull up the front actually. just get as far forward as you can and grip that tank pretty hard with your knees. get real far forward and I dont think you are gonna loop it so if you get a bit of wheely just ride through it, its likely in full drag mode it'll come up in 2nd too on a naked with a lighter rider.
