Congrats on signing up for the MSF course! That was a really smart thing to do.

Of course I'm a cruiser guy myself riding an old HD Police Cruiser, so I'd recommend something that you could really do some miles on. How nice would it be to load up the bike and ride back to VA for fall break?

Whatever you do, think about the future and the resale value of your bike. Don't get something now as a quick fix and be hating it in a year and lose loads of money. Do some research at http://www.kbb.com.

Also, consider renting a few different types of bikes over the course of a few weekends and see what type of riding posture you like better. That should really help you decide what type of you would like to have.

I used to think I wanted a sport bike, so I could haul tail down the road. But now that I've got my police cruiser, I couldn't imagine anything more fun!
