I just came home a couple of hours ago from my first big solo ride.
I rode to Vernon and back to visit some friends that I only get to see every year or so.
To get to Vernon one must ride through the mountains and it is about 300 miles each way.
I left on Friday morning and made a breakfast stop a bit over an hour from home and then a gas stop before I got to the Coquihalla Highway. I then stopped at the junction of the Coq and the connector for a nother few minutes break before I carried on to Kamloops. I had to stop and fuel in Kamloops and took a few minutes there for a coffee break before I made the final leg to Vernon.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well my 650cc V-Star performed on the mountain roads. Although the curves are easy, the hills are very long and very steep and the speed is fast.
I found it quite amazing to see the difference in mileage from in town riding to mountain highway riding. In town I can get over 300 km and not go on reserve. On this trip I managed about 230-240 and had to go on reserve.
So there you have it, I rode 600 miles in 2 days.

Loonette and Sweet Tooth, doing a ride like that sure does give your confidence a boost.
I was a tiny bit apprehensive going, but not apprehensive coming back.
I'm looking forward to the next adventure.

88 miles each way, youv'e got me beat. My commute is only 35miles each way but it's a nice ride if I go around Amarillo and fun if you like to go a little fast sometimes. My husband and I rode ours bikes to Carlsbad caverns Memorial Day weekend. Ended up with about 600miles.

UPDATE: On Tuesday, ZooTech and I rode down to S.E. Ohio to grab onto Route 555 (nicknamed, The Triple Nickel). This route was crazy with hills and blind curves. We put in roughly 400 miles for the day, with few stops. It was a challenging and exciting ride. Thus far, that would be the most miles I've put on in one shot.

My main riding partner got himself a part time job, so I haven't been getting in those long trips like loonette and zootech.
I guess I better find a new riding partner.
Loonette, your ride sounds like it was challenging, but fun.
