Guess I can post an update. I upgraded to an HJC CL-14 lid. Has more venting and is a lighter color than my old one. I also went down a size to a medium, which fits much much better. It doesn't move around on my head when doing blind spot checks at 80 MPH.

Seems like a waste to just trash an old helmet isn't there a way to recycle it?

NOt that I know of, however, I did had a clasp that followed me across about 3 helmets - was a "seatbeltclip" style one - originally off a Shoei lid.

I am not a fan of the double-d loop style, so just change that over each time until I got another helmet that had one as standard!

Think of all the cool stuff you could make out of old helmets...

Cut the top out of a full-face and put a bowl in it to hold your peanuts while you're watching the MotoGP (or football, whatever).

Put some dirt in them and hang them upside down as hanging planters!

Stab a bunch of holes into the top, and use it as a storage-block for your steak knives! (Like those wooden block that usually hold knife sets) And then, take a marker and scribble 'the cagers made me do it' on the side!

Or back over your helmet with your cage (or better yet, take it to a construction site and have one of those guys in the giant machines to run it over) and then march around town with your now-crushed lid screaming This is what happens when cagers don't pay attention! Johnny was so young.. so, so young!

My first helmet, I bought, did a nose dive to the pavement with me when I triped on some stairs. A test later on it, with it falling off the back of the bike at 100km/hr, it still held up, just some good chip marks out of it and the visor is all scratched up. Dont wear it at all, but still have it.

Well, I finally got my new lid - an AGV demon V-top. Not a bad price at 65quid from the BMF show..

I agree with that article and it's claim that an unladen helmet dropped from two or three feet is likely just fine. I've dropped my helmet from waist height before. Everyone says, 'time to get a new helmet'... instinctively I felt that that was kind of ridiculous from the force of the impact my helmet received, but it's nice to see some evidence that my opinion is valid on that subject. I'd feel different if I dropped it twenty feet or if I got whacked on the head with a bat while wearing the helmet.
