No ticket cost stated. It's based of my driving or in this case, riding record. Thank God, my riding record does not reflect my driving record. So even if I am denied, after seeing a clean record they SHOULD just slap me with a warning. But I can't stress enough, this is New York, so I'm sure they'd find a way to make me drop the soap and hand me a fine of $115. Of course this money is being put to good use though. Its going to......

I understand the law, but it sounds like that cop just has a problem with riders. All he had to do was ask you to put it down...problem solved.

Seems like in NYC there are much bigger fish to fry than someone riding with their sheild up...

there is a huge fish to fry... THEY NEED MONEY... and the way to fry it is to slap every sucker they meet with fines no matter how silly. From what I've read the practice really ramped up a few years ago, with tickets being issued for things like license plate frames and parking in a way that blocks your own driveway...
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

There's law. And then there's application to enforce a law. How the law is enforced is critical on determining the state of our society. This is just pis$ poor of a reason.

I've been busted for lack of eye protection before. Most states require some form of eye protection while on a motorcycle, even if a helmet is not required.

I got busted when I decided to ride a whole block to a convenience store for a cold drink. Normally, I'm wearing glasses with shatter-proof plastic lenses, but that day I happened to be sporting my new contacts.

That's when I also got a ticket for not having a motorcycle endorsement. I'd been riding for about 3 or 4 years (no car) by then, so I just bit the bullet and took the test. The no endorsement ticket was dismissed, but I had to pay for the eye protection ticket.

Last (and only!!) ticket I got...I showed up and the cop didn't...ticket was thrown out.

Does that apply in NY as well?
Andy

I wave to everyone...I don't give a flyin' 'f what you are riding.

Thats ridiculous he decided to say ""fudge" discretion" and hit you with a ticket for the first time. Something petty like that, motor units will usually just hit you with a warning. Maybe his county/city is having a sweep for a week or so for things like that.

Either way...I usually always have my shield up since traffic out here is ridiculous going to work. I should probably suck it up and put the damn thing down.
