i recommended the GS bikes because since they're well suited to the Alps they're great anywhere.

I'm looking to get the R1200 / R1150 Adventure so I can just let loose on any road.

my preference is more towards standard/sportbike/sport tourer. the K1200S is actually one of my dream bikes (that and the MV Augusta Brutale)

Anything with electronic fuel injection should compensate altitude changes better than 4 carbs.

definately. My next bike is absolutely going to be fuel injected

Anytime you're up above 8,000 ft. you'll be low on power because of the oxygen-poor thin air. But you are correct that FI will be an improvement. While you still may have low power because of the altitude, you won't be making it worse by adding an inappropriately rich fuel mixture on top of that.

FI is great at altitude. I've had carbed bikes that were puking black smoke and barely able to climb a hill at 11,000 ft. Most of that goes away with FI.
