Here's my scariest experience. I had been working all day moving out of a temporary condo into our house that was about 40 miles away. My wife tried to convince me to ride with her in the car and leave the bike until the morning. I was pretty tired but thought that once I got on the road I'd be OK. Got about 30 miles down the road at about 11 PM at night and actually fell asleep while riding. I suspect that I only nodded off for a split second, but waking up on the bike doing 60 mph at night scared the stuffing out of me. I had no more trouble staying awake after that. I pulled over in a gas station and told my wife that I wanted to rest for a moment. She didn't know that I fell asleep, and I wasn't about to tell her but I needed to collect myself before continuing. Since we were within a few miles of the house she decided to go on without me. After a few minutes I started out again. Got about 3 miles down the road and ran out of gas; I forgot that I had switched to the reserve tank on my last ride. Now I'm in the middle of nowhere at night and out of gas. I started walking and finally got to a Highway Patrol station a mile or two down the road. They gave me a gallon of gas, took me back to the bike, and followed me to the nearest gas station. Of course, when I got home the wife wanted to know where the hell I had been. I learned my lesson; don't ride when you're overtired and remember to buy gas.

There were my first rides in the city. It was late spring and here in Ukraine it may be sometimes humid. Somehow I had no possibility first to try riding by humid road. It was raining a little. I was riding my bike by the city street with two driving lanes in the right one. Suddenly before the crossroad from the left appeared stupid old red car with cheap tuning. The driver watched me for some time and moved to the right!!! Half a meter from my front wheel!!! And stopped!!! I did the same and don't know how my bike didn't fall with me as I blocked back wheel and it started abruptly move to the side... Than he started and disappeared by the next turn... In such a situation (first in my life!!!) I could not remember his numbers... unfortunately...

From those times I try to have my eyes not only in front, but also behind and by sides.

2 experiences

1st time- i just got passed my MSF class and on a randon trip somewhere, i got fixated on an object as i was making my turn and nearly didn't make the turn- quickly reminded myself to look through the turn!

2nd time was yesterday! Those bloody weather ppl! it wasnt suppose to rain here in Chicago until Friday night...and on Thursday evening, around 4 pm, its pouring rain and 20-25 mph winds and the weather just got worse. I was so surprised to see how much those high winds and having less traction makes for one scary 30 mile ride....

weather people are always wrong. It's supposed to snow hard today; the sun is coming out...

someone remind me that in my next life or my next career choice, to become a weatherperson, so that i still get paid for doing my job wrong and only giving accurate information 25% of the time. Hell, most of these weatherfolks even get the sunrise and sundown wrong too....

Sometimes I use my intuition, sometimes common sense, sometimes I watch morning sky and say myself what weather will be today. But never use the suggestions of weather people!!! In such a way I always take with me in the koffer rain suit and waterproof gloves while riding my bike.

had to be when an SUV backed into me at a red light, you know how hard it is to back pedal and try to find the damn horn at 4:30am.
