Another option you can try is pleading guilty with a reduced charge of impeding traffic.
i totally don't understand it.
also, i think i lost my ticket.....but i still have the ticket number.....is there any kind of a fine/charge/penalty for that?
Impeding traffic is just another violation, but without points. Impede means to hold up, block or get in the way. Basically, it's just a method used by the courts to receive their cash yet offer a good driver the chance to maintain a clean record. You may have heard about Misdemeanors or felonies being "reduced" to a lesser charge due to reasons of cooperation by the violator. An impeding violation is the same thing. You cooperate by pleading guilty with remorse, they provide leniency by reducing the charge and saving you points. But as I stated, usually only for those with clean records.
You could also plead guilty and try asking for probation. In many cases, the court may provide a 6 month or a year probation. If you do not receive a moving violation within that probation period, they wipe it clean. If you receive a moving violation within that period, you will have TWO tickets to deal with and more points. BUT again...it'll only work for a driver with a clean record. The courts usually provide the benefit of a doubt with a driver who has a clean record. Obviously, a clean record indicates responsibility. Therefore, they take this into consideration and believe you will be responsible when you drive/ride again. Another BUT....if you are a new driver/rider who just received your license, a clean record means squat. You may still get a break to prove yourself, but they will be very cautious.
If your record is clean, what you should do is arrive to court early and discuss your options with the arresting officer. Let him know you want to maintain a good driving standard and if there is anything you can do to keep the points off your record. Basically put, kiss his "O Ring" and be FRIENDLY. Yes sir, no sir and display respect. It goes a long way.
As for losing the ticket, there shouldn't be a penalty. Many people in life are forgetful and lose things. Just have your license and they will look up the ticket then provide directions to where you need to go. This is when you ask the name of the officer who pulled you over then ask if he is available. If so, ask if you can speak to him/her then take it from there.
