Probably not a bad idea, to keep an eye out for some old, semi knackered plastics to put on your bike when on the track. If you plan to push it, it'll likely be the best decision you ever made.

yeah, i know... problem is my bike is totally redesigned from older year models. availability for used plastics is not great.

but yeah... i need to invest on race plastics... they're expensive but still considerably cheaper than the OEM plastics.

oh well, i have some time before fall or winter to save up and buy race plastics and tires.

You don't need/want race tires for track days. Sure they grip like crazy but they also wear out really fast, and that means you've got to buy more tires which is 'spansive! I've heard that some companies make "track day tires" which are softer than street tires but harder than racing slicks so they last a bit longer. Might be worth a looking in to.

As for the body work, it is going to be a major PITA to swap your bodywork, remove the lights, signals, etc, every time you want to do a track day. For a while at least I'd just stick with taping your signals/lights/mirrors. They simply won't fit under/on racing bodywork.

If you do decide that you want to go through all that trouble, I figure most of the major plastic manufacturers will have '06 gixxer plastics already. I know Sharkskinz does, and others probably do too.

Dude...it's worth it! That's the famous master's exhaust of speediness +5! Can only be found by killing goblins or SQUIDS!

Since you are doing the trackdays for on the street skill, i would keep your everyday tires. Otherwise its kind of like driving a hummer so you can get a feel for your metro.

im thinking of setting my old cb360 up for the track and run it on the vintage circuit. If I wreck it, then I'm only out a few hundred bucks. Oh and, new mufflers for it are like $40 each from JC whitney!

money spent is not directly proportional to amount of fun had. Someday you might learn that Verm.

aren't racing tires known for wearing out from the constant heating up/cooling down cycle they go through? and become bad, despite plenty of tread left? And verm, you'll get so few miles out of those tires. Your best bet is to just use up the tires you have now and go with some pilot powers, or gasp! more of the BT's!

Yeah, racing slicks wear out like crazy. Stick with a harder compound so you don't spend up all your track money on tires.
