Good advice. But without getting an engineering degree its pretty hard to sift through all the marketing BS.

I am currently 85 credits (2 years) into my engineering degree and haven't learned a damn thing about oil and such. The only thing that I have really retained is an attitude against instruction manuals: they could be better used as toilet paper. The things have most likely been translated into (insert complicated foreign language here), then back into engilsh to come out completely different from the design specs.

I'm prepping for a 360 mile trip on Saturday...unfortunately my next oil change is due in 300 miles. I want to change the oil and, while I have the oil, I don't have an oil filter. The only time I have to do it is tonight, but since I'm working 14 hour days today and tomarrow and leaving 4am Sat night, there's no way I can get to a dealership to buy an oilfilter.

I run synthetic, changed every 2,500 miles. Any harm seen in changing the oil now and changing the filter when I get back from my trip? Its either that, or leave the bike home.

Or is there an oil filter crossreference sheet for car filters somewhere? I do hate going to the dealership all the time just for a filter.

When you change the filter you will not lose that much oil. Just be sure the dip stick is on tight.

Amzoil is a decent product. I admit that.

But Jebus, it's just like a friggin' cult. Why can't they just sell it on store shelves, just like every other oil? This whole local-distributor-on-up marketing thing they got going on smells too much like Amway for me.

It's like buying a bag of weed..... "Hey Dude, I'm going to see 'my guy' for some product. You want some?"
