Suspensions are designed to soak up shocks from small rocks, potholes, 2x4s, and suchlike.... if it was only the size of a "couple oranges"...well, I don't know what size oranges you are talking about but if you mean the standard oranges we get around here that's what I'd call NBD (no big deal)... I've gone over bigger w/ my ninja's front and back tires. Front suspensions have 8ish inches of travel so you can go over a 4" high bump without bottoming.

It'd be a serious issue if you were in a corner... but if you're going straight and hit a rock like that the tire just steps out a bit as the rock rolls out the side and the wheel falls off the other way. Feels a bit weird but that's all you can really say.

Righto, I never said it was a very huge deal, just relating my riding occurences, but if you stack two oranges on top of eachother, then you get about 5-6 inches, which by any standards is not a little thing to hit at over 50kph.

Theory of modern suspension apart, you must remember I am riding a 1980's bike with suspension designed in the mid 70's, not ninja quality. Rebound damping would also not be a strenght on my bike, as the front wheel did leave the tarmac for a while, rather than the rolling out the side part you describe.

So before we can say "thats all you can really say" lets take a closer look at the facts, shall we...

With the facts you gave it is all I could really say.... and even with new information I still say that, no matter how you orient your oranges, I don't see it wrecking your front suspension... not at 30MPH.

But who knows. Best to avoid it anyway.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.
