The Heat

I'm in Ft Worth... Yesterday we were 107 H/I 113. Today at the time of posting it's 104. I'm recovering from a dose of kidney stones I picked up from the heat, so I'm not riding for a few days, but I wouldn't ride in this stuff anyway. I'm a wuss... I'll ride at 8PM when it's only 100.

This past weekend it was approaching 100 degrees, the weekend before was around 95. I was totally comfortable riding about 800 miles. The trick is synthetic mesh armor with a soaking wet t-shirt beneath.

I live in DC and work in Baltimore as a Stockroom Supervisor for Middle River Aircraft Systems. A co-worker said that the thermometer on the shipping dock read 105 yesterday. And that is next to a huge high-bay door for trucks to come in. Over on the otherside of the wall where I sit (no ventilation) it could have been hotter.

But I still got my hour and a half of overtime in.

It's been in the mid to high 80's here but it's not stopping me. I was out last weekend and going out again this one.

In New Jersey yesterday, 98 and heat index of 105. Didn't stop me from riding to work, mesh jacket is pretty comfortable as long as I'm moving. Much better today, only in the mid 80's.

How is the traffic in NJ? When I leave for work at 430 it's nice and cool(about 80-85), but when I drive home and it's over 100, that's when I get stuck in the bumper to bumper traffic. The mesh doesn't do much in that situation.

Traffic's pretty reasonable going in at 6:30. I was late this morning, so naturally got into gooey traffic, but it never actually stopped. I've been waiting until 6 or 7 pm to leave to avoid getting stuck going home. My commute is from south to central Jersey, I'm sure north Jersey is worse.

It's was 90+ here over the weekend. Now normally I wear at least something on my arms....textile or jean jacket. On the way home from our ride on Sunday, I opted for vest and t-shirt. Boy what a difference that made.

I am in south east oklahoma and it is 102 heat index of 110!!
came in from rewireing the rear turn signals, took shower and probaly
squeezed a quart of sweat out my clothes.
It was HOT.
