No disagreement from me.

It is a staggering number of deaths, both American and otherwise.

Not meaning to be funny, but its the civilian deaths which really shocked me. By that, I don't mean I take the soldier ones lightly. But the soldiers knew the potential outcomes when they signed up for an inherantly dangerous job.

But to not have a safe home to live in, when you're an innocent. I just simply can't comprehend that lifestyle.

the only way to govern people in that area is with stronger force than they can muster.if saddam had tried to be sweet he wouldnt have lasted a week.democracy aint gonna work everywhere.the people were better off before we went there.

In a civil conflict such as this, where the two sides have been at odds for centuries, I don't think it's going to get "sorted out" anytime soon. The only way it was kept under control before was because they had a repressive government with an iron fisted dictator. Unless we're planning on setting up a similar government, they will continue to fight each other indefinitely.

Anytime you remove a repressive government, old tribal and religious conflicts are sure to follow. Yugoslavia, Russia/Chechnya and Afghanistan are recent examples.

At this point the US presence in iraq is having a trivial effect at best. Everyone complains about how many people are killed by US soliders there and dont stop to realize that the iraqis kill each other in MUCH greater numbers.

only thing the US presence is doing at this point is keeping Iran from moving in and taking over.

Alternative?
See, the problem here is a simple 'exchange rate' matter. There would be no war if we could somehow agree on the conversion rate between the BJE (bj equivalent) and the DE (diamond equivalent). There'll be no fighting once we can agree on that because all the men will be sleeping and all the women will be happy looking at their hands

IF we would keep the politicans and the press out of the war and let our military do its job we would have had a better handle on the situtation.
politicans leak our military secrets for headlines. And the press puts them in the news and newspaper so the terrorests will know what our military is planning to do. telling our military plans to the enemy used to be called
TREASON now it is called the six oclock news.
