Or you can just get a used bike and pay alot less. My 2000 EX500 had 6200 miles and it cost me $1800 and was in great condition!

New bikes are more expensive, cost more to insure, and you'll probably feel alot worse if you drop it
2000 Kawasaki Ninja EX500R (Sold)
2006 Suzuki SV650S (Stolen 4/08, recovered 12/08, sold 3/09)
2004 Suzuki SV650S (Sold)

Being bikeless SUCKS!!!

if a $2000 price difference is what is keeping you from upgrading to a 500 maybe you shouldnt be getting a bike. At least brand new anyways. heck just to replace the light assembly over the liscence plate of a honda shadow deluxe is gonna cosst you $100 and where I live it is illegal to drive at night without that light. Just saying if you cant afford the 2k price diff then you cant afford to keep the bike up but then again what do I know I have only had a bike in my possesion for 1 day shy of 1 week lol.

back to the original topic.

the 250 and the 500 are both excellent bikes. they haven't changed much at all in about 20years so maintainence is pretty straight forward.

taller riders tend to prefer the seating position on the 250 over the 500 due to the shape of the tank.

after your BRC, you should be able to easily handle either the 250 or 500.
