Let's turn my thread about what made me decide to buy a bike, and my sincere question about what made other people decide to buy a bike, and turn it into a Harley flame fest simply because it's easy to bash Harleys.
That would mean people would have to...think, or something. WTF!

I decided to buy a bike (and it ended up being a harley - OMG!! And it was cheaper than the honda I was looking at!! and was more comfortable than the kawasaki I sat on! and I'm not totally broke! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok ok, sorry. Stopping with beating the horse now. ;) )

I bought a bike because I didn't want to be like the guy in the commercial you're talking about. I'd wanted to ride for years, but always let other things take priority, and let others who are afraid of motorcycling talk me into postponing. Around April this year I said f it - I want to be riding my own bike by the end of this summer, and set out to do that. I just turned 27 and I feel like I wasted a bunch of years I could have been riding already, but you can't redo the past so at least I'm doing it now.

So you've finally figured out how this forum works. :D We do have a Harley Owners forum here now, you're more than welcome to join up and talk about our bikes without having to wade through all the childish crap others like to throw around about them. If you want to discuss bikes in general on the main forums, it's best not to mention Harley otherwise you'll just be feeding the bears.

I don't even own a Harley.

I have a Yamaha.

This thread wasn't about Harleys. It's ridiculous that people behave this way :|

Ok, no worries. It looks like you're sitting on a Sportster in your avatar which is why I figured you had one. But if it has two wheels and an engine, I don't care what you ride - as long as you ride.

It is a Sportster. I rode it for a day, then bought myself a cheap Yamaha Virago 535:P

Oh come on guys, it's all just funnin' around. Harley guys used to give me a hard time about riding "rice burners." Besides, it isn't about what you ride, as long as you ride! ALL bikes are cool!

again, back on topic

i bought my first bike on a whim with money i won off of my softball teammates shaking dice (it's interesting waking up with fuzzy memories of the night before and an extra $700 in your pocket). after that i got hooked.

I allways wanted a bike for the road, Allways had dirtbikes from the time I was 17 until now. Parents were pissed when I got mine, I would love a HD, triumph or Duc but I think I have spent about 1100 on mine total to get it on the road, So now I am saving for the bike I really want to get next year
