Take out the screws holding it on, remove the gasket (which will probably come off with the old cover). Put the new gasket/cover in place and replace the screws. 5 minute job (unless you have to remove the fairing, then maybe 30 minutes) Check your oil level (its probably not all that low), fill it to the proper level, and your done. Probably can fix this for $50.00, depends on how expensive the cover is. If you take it to a shop, add another $75.00 or so for labor. Just make sure that the crankcase itself isn't cracked. (I doubt it would be, but it's possible)

It won't sell for much if it doesn't start no matter what the reason is.
You better push that bugger home.
