what does this mean?
With chain drive, you can alter the bike's final drive ratio by changing to a sprocket with more or less teeth. You can choose a ratio that favors acceleration, or one for cruising with lower engine speed.

I didn´t know the meaning of this letters in the diferent models. Very helpful all this information that you wrote Scoutmedic... Here in Mexico, only the M50 is for sale.

As jstark47 says. It means that you can't just change the teeth on sprockets to increase quickness or lower RPM at cruising speed (whichever someone may want to do). Your stuck with the factory final drive ratio. Which really isn't a bad thing, but something to consider.

The other difference between the S50 and the M & C is the engine has a 10:1 compression ratio over the 9.2:1 the others have. That and the lower weight = fast. I really like the looks of the M50 over the S50 actually, but it's lack of performance and higher weight made the S50 a better choice for me. The S50 responds quicker and is much more manuverable then any cruiser in it's class and for a while was the fastest cruiser under 1000cc. Not sure if that still holds true with the kaw 900 coming out.

I bought a C50. I had the Honda 750 and M50 on my list but once I sat on them I they felt too small. I don't believe a bike is something you grow in to nor should you fork over money and think you can adjust. It's just like buying shoes, you get what feels comfortable and fits.

The C50 is a great bike with great power, and it's slow enough and big enough for me that I don't transform into a speed demon once I hit the freeway.

Remember, get what fits!

The C has the new "fat" profile with 130/90-16 front and 160/90-15 rear tires. Long fenders. Dual exhaust on the right side. Weight is 542 lbs. Fuel Injected. 4.1 gal tank.

The M shares the fat profile with the C but the rear tire is wider at 170/80-15. Short, bobbed fenders. Same exhaust as C. Weight is 544. Fuel Injected. 4.1 gal tank.

The S has a narrower profile including narrower tires (100/90-19 front & 140/90-15 rear). High, bobbed rear fender. Dual exhaust with one on each side. Weight is 443. Carburated. 3.2 gal tank.

They also geared differently, with fairly different ergos. The classic has an older look to it as well, while the muscle went for something a little newer, or meaning if you will.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Our Suzuki Dealer is also the Honda dealer so I got a chance to compare and chose the suzuki C50, they were a very close match but I went with the fuel injection and 50 cc's more engine size. I have been happy with the bike to this point and based on information given by the dealer, they are very dependable bikes.

The Honda Shadow 750 is a great bike, but its S-L-O-W, the Suzuki and Kawasaki 800's are quicker and faster, but the overall quality of the Honda is better.
