i was wondering if that would work. because i'm on this site at my job, i delete cookies several times daily, so every time i re-log on (2-3 times a day) i get more ads, doesn't bother me one bit, this site's more than worth it.

Yes, it would indeed work as you would get a "re-set" cookie on your computer saying you haven't seen any ads within the last 24 hours, so a new set of ads will be shown to you, generating revenue for Total Motorcycle and showing you offers you may be interested in.

Thanks as well Big B for supporting the site and pulling more than your weight by doing it. It is much appreciate not just from me, but from the whole community.

To all - I know that ads aren't always fun, there are some really great ads shown on TMW, but besides that I'm always working on lowering the amount of not-so-good ads that show up and as TMW gets more site supporters I lower the popups. Hopefully one day, there will be no popups. :D

Thank you all for your support in helping out TMW, motorcyclists and motorcycling worldwide. You help more people than you know as the internet is huge and over 580,000 people read your posts a month.

When I was in college I worked for a while at FAO Schwartz. They have a ridiculously loud song sung by little kids that is 30 seconds long and repeated nonstop all day. 70% of the song is "Welcome to our world of toys" repeated several times throughout. I worked 8 hour shifts, and you could still hear the song from the breakroom at lunchtime.

You COULD tune it out, except that every customer who walks in the door every 5 minutes asks you how you can tolerate that song playing all day, immediately forcing you to return your attention to the song.

You ad complainers don't know the meaning of 'annoying'.

/me hugs Firefox + Adblock + NoScript
I am very disapointed Seca Girl. Not only do I own a Seca XJ650RJ myself but it's very dishartening to see a member enjoy the site and actively go out of their way to not support it AND take advantage of it by blocking any income to keep the site up and running for others by using Adbock and No Script and Firefox.

Boo! Thanks for ruining my morning at 7am. F- for you.

You won't find many friends here being a leech like that. Sorry if I'm harsh but you really should think about supporting things you like on the net or they'll be gone (or not free) one day.

Mike.

P.S. On one website, they tell it really well:
In the end, it’s up to you if you want to continue blocking ads. I personally recommend against it, and not just for Ars. Don’t visit the sites that use egregious advertising. But support the sites that you like. I seriously doubt you’d do you day job for free, so why expect it of others?
Harsh. I hope you realise that Adblock has the option to hide the ads, so they still load, I just don't have to look at them.

But one thing I will not allow, is the ad providers to run scripts on my computer. Their javascripts will remain blocked. Unless you'll take responsibility for any damage they might do if compromised.

Now, if you're really interested in pimping the adverts for more views. There's an extension for Firefox called "Cookie Culler" and it allows you to save & protect some cookies (like the board login cookie) while all others are deleted everytime you close they broswer.

By hiding the ads, and having ad's cookies deleted multiple times a day, I've probably given TMW more than my fair share of ad views, and never had to bother with seeing them.

DOH! :doh1:

Seems I was digging my own hole on that one as I assumed that with Firefox, Adblock and NoScript running they were ad blocking software extensions, I didn't know you could choose not to block ads using them.

Although I'm sure the advertisers will have issues with them loading and not being seen and even though I might make a few cents, they won't and I do have to consider them... BTW: How does that work with Popunders/ups?
But one thing I will not allow, is the ad providers to run scripts on my computer. Their javascripts will remain blocked. Unless you'll take responsibility for any damage they might do if compromised.
No reputable site will have an ad provider that runs those types of ads. Rather than blocking everything out you might want to consider what sites you are visiting... As your new here, you may not know that I have an area in the suggestion box to suggest the removal of ANY annoying ads, and you'll see I do as quickly (within the day) as possible. I do not know of any other site that will do this for their members. Total Motorcycles DOES NOT and WILL NEVER run an ad that will automaticly install a script on your computer. I will make sure of that.

The ONLY thing our ads will put on your computer (at least from Total Motorcycle) is a cookie telling our server when you were last here as to NOT serve you an ad. Amazing I know, I'm actually putting a cookie on your computer to not serve ads and to not get paid more just so you can have a more enjoyable time at this site you don't view the ads from anyways.

Sorry for being harsh in my last reply to you. It's a very touchy subject for those who desire to run a good quality free site using a few ads that don't harm anyone's enjoyability of the site.

Thanks for writing and for your explanation. Enjoy the site.

And remember folks, Mike makes his living from this site. Which basically means from revenue those ads generate.

Think about it, whatever you do for a living, if your customers could come in, use everything you offer, refuse to pay for it, then berate you wanting to be paid. Mull that over for awhile.

As for the type of ads that appear.... what do ads for cars have to do with the evening news? or ads for tampons to do with the hockey game? The advertizers don't care about the relationship between the medium and the product (mostly, some of them do target thier product to an audience of a certain medium... beer +hockey always works, eh?), they just want thier ad to be seen by as many as possible and figure some small percentage of veiwers will be attracted by thier ad. It's like hunting one duck with a flight of B-52's..... don'tcha love the advertizing world? :frusty:

Thanks BuzZz, I do appreciate it very much for backing me up here. :D

For those who do not know, Total Motorcycle is my fulltime job. It's what I love to do and that is to help people. Surely that is a good goal worthy of support by viewing a few ads you see. I ask for nothing in return other than your assistance to make TMW a better place than when you visited it.

Total Motorcycle helps support motorcycling and motorcyclists worldwide and give them a place like this to go to on the net. I spend 6-8 hours a day on the site, writing, improving, moderating, and with the help of wonderful moderators like BuzZz and 22 other moderators we make this place a friendly, useful and helpful place. I won't leave out the thousands of our community members and millions of visitors whom without their support of this goal it would be unachieveable.

Is't it nice to be part of something huge, something positive in the world, something that we all can build on for the benefit of others.

Thank you for doing what you can, when you can to help us all achieve this goal.
