Being a new rider I had to laugh at it. Not him crashing into the tree, but if he would have taken Just the MSF 1st day riding class he would have known what to do to avoid the tree. I don't know, call me funny, when i wanted to become a truck driver (which I am) i went to truck driving school. When I wanted to become a motorcycle rider I took a motorcycle course.

No helmet, wearing sneekers, shorts and a sleeveless shirt. Plus his feet don't touch the ground. Everything that can be done wrong, he's doing.

wow, so hard to watch a bike that nice get into the hands of an inexperienced person. For some reason that is always what brand new riders do, they get in a situation like that and want to hit the gas. I still feel bad for the bike

It's not an uncommon goof for a noob. I witnessed a carbon copy of this accident earlier this year. My noob neighbor shot across the street, up over a curb and into the neighbor's tree. The more the bike accellerated, the more he pulled on the throttle. It was all over pretty quick, since his new bike had over 100 hp and a sensitive throttle.

Did the bike survive? Was it badly damaged?

The bike was toast. Front end and most of the plastic was gone. Insurance company totalled it. It was hauling butt (and still accelerating) when it hit the tree.

I don't know if it's fact or urban legend, but I read an article on select first bikes that claimed the majority of accidents on bikes over 500cc occur within the first 10 miles of ownership.

I can definitely see how this type of thing can happen to an FNG. The first bike I got on after the MSF course was an '07 H-D 1200C Sportster. Great bike, but not what I needed to be on the first time out on the street. Within 5 minutes I was making a left from a stop, and fixated on a parked truck that I need to avoid. Because I was looking at what I needed to avoid rather than where I needed to go, I came dangerously close to plowing into the back of a parked truck! Luckily at the last possible moment I looked out into the lane I needed to be, and had enough lean left to clear the truck.

The difference between me and this guy was that I was actually dressed for a ride, in a jacket, helmet, gloves, jeans, and boots.

Saw a guy do the same thing last year on Speed or maybee ESPN's sports bloopers. He was going about 120 and slid for about 150 foot.(on grass not track)Picked up bike and finished race (2nd)

The guy became target fixated.

If you stare at something going "oh fudge I'm gonna hit that, fudge fudge fudge fudge" guess what? your gonna hit it.

You need to look where you want to go and trust the bike.
