If you came here looking for someone to confirm that it's a good idea you might get a few responses. You will find however many more replies that indicate it's a bad idea.

What I'm going to tell you, is that this is your FIRST bike, not your LAST bike. Chances are good you will drop it, whether at speed, or at a stop. Do you really want to beat up a $10000 gixxer 750. OR would you rather beat up a $2000 Ninja 250 then move on to the bike you really want - a bike that will not have all the scars it would if you had learned on it.

Ask Verm, he's had a gixxer 1000, and gixxer 750. Both have learning marks on them, both will probably acquire more.

My second (current) bike is a Honda 599... it has two paint chips on the rear cowl, and these are from a poorly secured load. I've put 23000km on it in two years. I learned on a smaller bike, and I'm glad I did.

WOW... ALOT OF POSTS

6 hours in to the post and alot of replies... Thx a lot. Ya... I read this long article on TOtal motorcle about not getting a 600>bike. That totally convenced me to get a 250.

I have no intentions to die early or get hurt, I wont to live as long as I can

By the way I took my written test and Passed the written and next step is to Do the MSF course (see I am a safe ride  )

then I will look for some Gear and an Old 250. or 500, what ever i get for cheap.

I am not sure How long I have to ride before I feel ( and have money ) To get a gixxer 750.

Thx again for the Replies.

i got a gixxer1000 K6 as a 1st bike.

but if i could have turned back time... i would have gotten a gixxer600 K6 instead.

i was gonna get a 600 after my 1000 was stolen but i figured i'd go in the middle and got the 750.

im very satisfied with it and i don't feel like getting another literbike anymore. :D

Remember that a Ninja 250 will accelerate faster than most cars already. It's not like these things are electric scooters.

You've also crashed every bike you own. How did it make you feel to see $10000 worth of bike laying on it's side?

don't you need to do a WOT launch on a 250 for it to go 0-60mph in 5.75secs or whatever 5.** secs?

im just asking.

it's just scratches... it doesn't bother me.

although, if it had broken pieces, that will bother me.

like you said, they're learning marks. no biggie. it's part of learning.

i don't plan to re-sell or trade my bikes anyway.

You need to do the same thing in a car to even approach those kinds of numbers.

Is there a huge power loss when bikes gets older?

( I know things perform differently when they get older  , but question is how bad, compared to a new one)

Cuz I wil be getting an OLD ninja 250 or a bandit. Maybe between 1989 and 1996.
