That's funny, cause I did a 2600km round trip in under a week on mine last summer, and I've got even longer ones planned for this summer.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

If you can wait a little while longer the price will likely drop like the VTX line of bikes. I remember when the vtx first came out, they all had 12k sticker tags on them and those that "had to have one" got screwed. Better yet, wait 6 months and pick up a used one. SuzukYamasawkis always take a beating price-wise when you drive off the lot and there should be a number of them out there with very low miles.

My motto:
HD--buy new because they hold their value and there are too many idiots wrenching on them because they can't afford to get mods done properly after they make their monthly payement.

SuzYamaSawki--Buy used because the don't hold their value, period. Let somebody else take the 3-4k hickey.

PS: Never owned an HD so my slam is directed towards the only type of bike I have ever owned--metric.

went to a Stealer this weekend to look for gloves and saw the 1300...
neat looking bike and the radiator doesnt look as bad as i though...but maybe they are thinking that Star/Yamaha riders will flock to the new 1300 for the Hp, Fuel Injection and the liquid cooling properties..
i agree...i'd go w/ the roadie before i go 1300.......but just let the normal law of supply and demand dictate the price....no people buying..the price will come down fast baby!

On the same end, it could always be the stealer keepin it that high too!!!
